Art in a Unique Atmosphere
Art, Wine, and Dine Artists This is a group of established and emerging artists, who are exhibiting recent work in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. Founded in 2010 this group has quickly established a reputation for creating engaging, inspiring work that is accessible and affordable at the same time. Katia Claude My work attempts to translate an aesthetic experience born from an observation of the natural world or from memory. This act of transposition is to bring nature indoors by use of canvas as a pretext. Living in an urban environment, I have only felt an even greater need to portray nature poetically. In a word, to create an anthology, a universe alive yet soothing. In interpreting the subject, figurative, intuitive, or occasionally organic shapes flood the canvas. In order to express the power and the beauty of the natural world, I often use bright and warm colors. I give texture on the surface of my canvas before starting a new painting and then I use the shapes of the texture to create my composition. I like building up successive thin, transparent washes that create areas of translucent color. This technique really allows me time to get into the painting and to work on a few canvases at the same time. Katerina Connearney The mood and atmosphere of a piece of work translates differently for every viewer. The human being can be beautiful and ugly in varying degrees, inside and out, often at the same time. The same piece can evoke very different emotions in different people – why is that? My interest in studies of the human figure is where it takes people when they look at them. Their interest is often why. Hilla Hueber Color and light speak to me in many subtle and significant ways and effect how I see the world. My paintings are an attempt at describing my impressions and conveying my experience with color and light, be it direct or indirect, illuminating an object, allowing for shadow and contrast, even absence of color. My work is inspired by my immediate surroundings, by the beauty I observe in my local environment or the places I visit, whether on city streets, or in the wilderness, at the edge of the ocean, in a weathered industrial building or well-designed public space. My paintings rarely represent reality, are fashioned from memory and imagination; multiple meanings are possible, as well as ambiguous emotions. Often using structural elements when developing content and composition, I feel I have succeeded when my audience engages with a specific piece and finds a connection to their own experience. Valerie Scott I have been drawing and painting since I was a small child. My creative process has gone through many stages, reflective of my life so far. Now, my abstract paintings are influenced by my many moods; peaceful and even sorrowful at times. My paintings reflect these emotional highs and lows. My work is also guided by the simplest of life observations. For instance, a water puddle in the gutter can hold little nuances of texture that give me inspiration! These little wonders play an integral part in my experimentation while working the painting to completion. Small slices of life help me create all of my pieces with a heavy dose of color and texture. Hopefully the viewer of my art can thoroughly enjoy and see the painting differently as many times as it is contemplated. PAST FEATURED ARTISTS Stephen Bruce http://www.stephenbstudios.com |
